Resolutions for the new quarter

I'm going to stop making resolutions about blogging, because I'm just not keeping them.

I am going to make a resolution about my teaching, though: I'm going to make a clearer distinction between learning, practice, and assessment activities. I'm going to use some ideas from mastery teaching, and focus my students on my core standards before they can move on to the advanced standards. I'm going to give up on trying to keep everyone on the same page when the range in ability, motivation, work habits, home environment, and just about everything else is huge. I want everyone to reach the core standards, but that doesn't mean everyone has to do the same thing at the same time.
